Take the time to do a self-assessment to review your abilities, education, experience, extracurricular activities and community service. When you recount your interests, abilities, aptitudes and values, you may find that you are skilled in areas that you never thought you’d be qualified. This assessment will be valuable in the application process, from determining what job to apply for to writing the resume and taking part in the interview. There are a number of resources available to assist in this process, from books like “What Color Is Your Parachute” to online sources such as Alaska Career Information System (AKCIS).
Many employment websites also have tools to assist in the job search. Be sure to utilize your high school career counselor or your Shareholder Development team as a resource as well.
